Autologous Blood Injection (Platelet Rich Plasma Injection)

The autologous blood injection (PRP therapy – Platelet Rich Plasma) is a biological, regenerative treatment method that can be used as a complementary therapy for injuries or degenerative changes in the shoulder, elbow, knee, or foot area, as well as for acute muscle injuries in various locations.

The therapy relies exclusively on the body’s own healing mechanisms: First, a small amount of venous blood is drawn from the patient. This blood is then processed in a special, closed PRP system using a centrifuge. Through this process, the components of the blood separate into different layers. The portion used is the concentrated fraction located between the red and white blood cells, which is rich in growth factors, platelets, and regenerative signaling molecules.

The PRP preparation obtained in this way is then injected directly into the injured or degeneratively altered region. Under sterile conditions and—depending on the location—this preparation can be applied precisely where the healing process needs to be supported. The goal of this treatment is to activate the body’s own regenerative potential, modulate inflammatory responses in a beneficial way, and thereby promote and accelerate the healing of tendon and muscle structures.

Autologous blood therapy can be used for both acute injuries and chronic complaints. It offers a particularly effective option for initiating healing in cases of long-lasting tendinopathies, potentially avoiding or delaying surgery. The treatment takes only a few minutes, is well tolerated, and can be repeated if necessary.

Scientific evidence shows that certain types of tendon disorders—such as so-called “tennis elbow tendinopathy,” partial tears of the rotator cuff, or chronic Achilles tendon tendinopathies—can experience significant improvements in load tolerance and pain symptoms. Because only the patient’s own material is used, the risk of side effects is extremely low.

Depending on the specific condition, autologous blood injections can be effectively combined with additional measures such as targeted physiotherapy, adjusted training load, or specialized rehabilitation programs. This allows the healing process to be optimally supported and stabilized over the long term.

I would be happy to explain in a personal consultation whether this treatment is appropriate in your individual case and what results can realistically be expected.
